Water System Installation and Reusable Water Bottles

2024 Bloom Fund Recipient

The Den Coffeehouse and Wine Bar in Northwest D.C. received a BLOOM grant to install a Wellsys W9 CT filtered water device in its self-serve area and offer reusable water bottles for retail. The goal is to provide the community with free, clean drinking water while promoting eco-consciousness and reducing plastic waste. Located inside Politics and Prose Bookstore, The Den attracts a diverse range of visitors, including students, remote workers, bookstore patrons, and local residents, many of whom are unhoused. This initiative will help fill a gap in the area by providing access to filtered water, a resource that is currently lacking in the neighborhood.

In addition to offering free filtered water, The Den will phase out the sale of plastic bottled water and replace it with reusable bottles, furthering its commitment to sustainability. By encouraging the use of reusable bottles, the café hopes to reduce single-use plastic waste and foster a more eco-friendly community. This project not only addresses a local need but also aligns with The Den's broader mission to create a sustainable, community-focused environment in Northwest D.C.

Bloom Fund

Counter Culture Coffee collects $0.01 from every pound of coffee sold to fund our Bloom program. Annually, $1 per pound of our spring coffee blend, Perennial, goes to further increase our contribution. Bloom provides grants to support sustainability initiatives at Counter Culture Coffee partner cafes. Rooted in the belief that everyone’s path toward sustainability looks a little different, this program supports projects of all shapes and sizes our partners identify as impactful.
