Celebrating 20 years of cutting-edge coffee education at origin!
At Counter Culture Coffee, one of our core values is our commitment to creating cutting-edge coffee professionals. For the past 29 years, we have been dedicated to this mission through our robust education program. Twenty years ago, we launched Origin Field Lab (OFL), where, for the first time, we took a group of baristas to see where coffee grows. This program grew to become a pinnacle of professional development and something to look forward to year after year. (Check out these photos from the first OFL trips!)
Since OFL’s inception, we’ve had the opportunity to visit farms in both Nicaragua and Honduras. The last Origin Field Lab was set to take place in March of 2020, but the pandemic canceled many events, OFL included.
We are overjoyed to announce the return of Origin Field Lab in 2024! This will be our first time visiting Peru! Instructors from CCC will be leading a trip to see our longtime producer-partners at Origin Coffee Lab and CENFROCAFE from October 8th to October 15th, 2024.
Participants will engage in both practical fieldwork and classroom instruction during this week-long immersive class. We will explore the complexities of contemporary coffee farming in general, and in Peru in particular, with on-site experiences that will illuminate the intricacies of coffee cultivation and processing for farms of varying sizes. Lab topics will include coffee botany, agriculture, coffee processing, contemporary challenges and opportunities for farmers, the structure of coffee cooperatives, milling and exporting, and Peru's sociopolitical history as it relates to the coffee industry.
Origin Field Lab is exclusively open to CCC Wholesale partners. If you are interested in learning more, reach out to your regional team or email us at education@counterculturecoffee.com.
