2022 Seeds Fund Recipient
In 2019, Agrocafe El Tambo—producers of our Nuevo Amanecer coffee—was granted Seeds money to transform an old corn farm into a research and development coffee farm. The farm, Centro de Biodiversidad Cafetero, is used to showcase and train Nuevo Amanecer farmer members on high-quality sustainable farm management practices. With their 2022 Seeds fund, they hope to expand on their efforts by building an eco-friendly coffee-washing system. Designed by the group’s president, Miller Lopez, the system will process the SL-28, Gesha, and Laurina coffees grown on the farm. The processing system uses less water and utilizes the pulp and wastewater in a vermicompost system to keep nearby aquatic ecosystems healthy.
Seeds Program
Counter Culture Coffee collects $0.01 from every pound of coffee sold to fund our Seeds program. Annually, $1 per pound of our winter coffee blend, Iridescent, goes to further increase our contribution. Seeds offers financial grants to producers and producer organizations we work with to implement sustainability projects they identify as beneficial. To date, we’ve allocated over $280,000 to Seeds projects.
