2022 Seeds Fund Recipient

Using a 2022 Seeds grant, Kanelite Estate began the construction of a shelter for seasonal and year-round workers. Kenya’s agricultural sector is a major employer and women contribute a large portion of the labor for coffee harvesting. Many of the women are mothers and due to Kenya’s economic difficulties, the mothers are unable to hire childcare during the day. This new shelter will provide shelter and a better working environment for farm workers and their families.

The shelter will have nursing areas for mothers, and facilities for feeding, changing, and sleeping young children. During the day, elderly members of the families act as caretakers for farm workers' younger children or mothers may pool resources to employ a nanny while they work.

  • Seeds Program

Counter Culture Coffee collects $0.01 from every pound of coffee sold to fund our Seeds program. Annually, $1 per pound of our winter coffee blend, Iridescent, goes to further increase our contribution. Seeds offers financial grants to producers and producer organizations we work with to implement sustainability projects they identify as beneficial. To date, we’ve allocated over $280,000 to Seeds projects.
